M&M Christmas Cookies
Homemade M&M Christmas Cookies are a delightful addition to your holiday cookie tray. With their bright red and green candy pieces, they bring a burst of festive color and chocolatey sweetness to your cookie platter.
Ingredients
- ½ cup unsalted butter - softened
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- ½ cup dark brown sugar - packed
- 1 large egg
- 1 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1½ cups all purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup M&M's
- 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F. Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Using an electric hand mixer, beat the softened butter until cream in a large mixing bowl.
- Beat in the dark brown sugar and the white sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add in the egg and the vanilla extract until combined.
- In a small bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Slowly beat the dry ingredients into the butter mixture until a soft dough forms.
- Gently stir in the chocolate chips and the M&M's.
- Scoop the dough by 2 tablespoons full (#40 cookie scoop) and roll into balls.
- Chill the dough for about 20 to 30 minutes.
- Place additional M&M's and chocolate chips onto the tops and sides of the cookie dough balls if desired.
- Bake for 9-11 minutes, or until the edges of the cookies are golden brown but the center is still soft.
- Allow the cookies to cool for 10 minutes before transferring them to a cooling rack to cool completely.
Notes
Chill the cookie dough for at least 20 minutes to prevent the cookies from spreading.
When rolling the cookie dough balls, squish the sides of the balls to make them taller and less thick - this will prevent a thinner cookie.
These cookies can be easily customized for any holiday. Simply swap out the colors of the M&M's.
To make the colors pop even more, add white chocolate chips for contrast.
These cookies are chewy, to make them more crispy, bake them in the oven for an additional one or two minutes.
Store in an airtight container once they are completely cool to prevent condensation build-up.
These cookies can be made up to 3 months in advance and frozen making them an excellent cookie for cookie trays during the Christmas season.
