Tips for Making Salted Caramel Cookies
Use high-quality ingredients. Opt for a quality caramel sauce or use homemade caramel sauce.
Chill your cookie dough in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours to improve texture and flavor. This step also prevents excessive spreading during baking.
Use a cookie scoop to get the same-sized cookie portions every time.
Use soft caramels as the mix-in for this recipe. Chopping Werther's soft caramels into small pieces and adding them to the dough works perfectly.

What Caramel to Use in Cookies
Werther's Soft Caramels are a popular and convenient choice. They are soft, easy to chop, and melt beautifully into the cookie dough and creates a gooey texture.
Caramel baking bits such as Kraft caramel bits also work for these cookies, but they don't produce a caramel chew that is as tender as Werther's and helps produce a chewier cookie and a gooey caramel.
The caramel sauce in the dough can be either store-bought or homemade caramel sauce. Be sure to choose a caramel sauce that you like because the flavor really comes through in the cookie.

Baking Tools for Baking Cookies
Using the right tools can make the process smoother and more fun.
Mixing Bowls-You'll need a few mixing bowls in different sizes. I like one bowl for wet ingredients and one for dry ingredients.
Measuring Cups and Spoons-Make sure you have both dry and liquid measuring cups and spoons, as accurate measurements are important for the success of your cookies.
Baking Sheets-Invest in a few good-quality baking sheets. Non-stick or aluminum baking sheets provide even heat distribution, which helps to bake cookies evenly. I prefer light colored baking sheets.
Parchment Paper-Use parchment paper to prevent cookies from sticking and make cleanup easier. It will also slow down the browning process of the cookies.
Electric Mixer-An electric hand mixer or stand mixer will save time and effort, especially when creaming butter and sugar together and it will save your hands!
Cooling Racks-Cooling racks help cookies cool evenly and prevent soggy bottoms by allowing air to circulate around them.
Cookie Scoops-Cookie scoops come in various sizes and help portion out the dough, which in turn helps ensure the cookies bake evenly.
